The National Servers Against AIDS Coalition began in 2006 at Num-Ti-Jah Lodge on Bow Lake in Banff National Park as a project of The Mountain Movement, an HIV/AIDS awareness campaign. Since then, the coalition has spread across the Rockies and plans are in the making to gradually expand it to other locations across Canada and the United States.
The idea is quite simple: servers donate their tips, or a percentage of their tips, to the cause of HIV/AIDS. The funds are then split between regional AIDS organizations, who often help to run the event, and to The Stephen Lewis Foundation.
Last year’s Bow Valley-Jasper Servers Against AIDS Day was an exciting new initiative, made possible through regional partnerships with AIDS Bow Valley and HIV West Yellowhead. A Servers Against AIDS Day also took place in Grande Prairie, Alberta, during the week of World AIDS Day, which is December 1st, 2008.
This year’s Bow Valley-Jasper Servers Against AIDS Day is July 25, 2009!
If you are a server, and you are interested in participating in the event to raise awareness and funds for the cause of HIV/AIDS, please contact us.
